Ros with camapigners outside County Hall
Lib Dems are supporting campaigners to save the James Day care home in Swanage by putting the Cabinet's decision to close the home on the agenda of the Audit & Scrutiny meeting next month.
"I believe that the decision was precipitate" says Prospective MP Ros Kayes, "It now transpires that there have been offers to take over the home by viable alternative providers, who are able to expand the places available for those suffering from dementia. In a county where the number of elderly people with complex care needs is ever increasing, we MUST make the council fully accountable for decisions they take that deprive the most vulnerable of vital services.
"I fear that this may be a vision of things to come. The community is fighting hard to save it & I support them all the way. Canvassing this weekend along with the petition, we found that most people had already signed it - everyone knew about the campaign & was outraged by the decision to close. Another example of centralised decision-making that ignores the needs of the community."
