ID Cards not the answer

Graham Oakes commenting on the expectation that ID Cards would feature in the Queens Speech said:
"Compulsory ID cards are not only wrong in principle but also in practice. Tony Blair said he would listen, yet he is ignoring the Cornish trial of these cards that failed miserably."
"Why is he pressing ahead with failed technology? "
"He will waste millions, possibly billions, on a system he knows will fail."
"If he wants to reduce crime he should spend the money on more police. He could reduce crime by changing planning rules to help design crime out of new developments. He could invest in our prisons so less offenders remain illiterate."
"There should be some redress when a politician knowingly wastes public money as this will do."
