Keep It Clean Challenge

March 29, 2005 9:32 AM

Lib Dem Parliamentary hopeful Graham Oakes has challenged his main rivals to "keep it clean" in the forthcoming General Election.

This call follows on from his previous challenge to both parties not to phone people who have chosen the Telephone Preference Service.

"Both the Tories and Labour were calling local people who had joined the TPS. These were nuisance call and could result in a fine for each unwanted call" commented Graham Oakes.

During the last General Election Labour approached Lib Dem supporters trying to get them to endorse Jim Knight. Whilst this is of course acceptable, they mislead one elderly Lib Dem and used a Socialist posing as a Lib Dem in their letters to Lib Dem supporters!

They have already stating trying again!

Labour also rang Lib Dem supporters claiming to be from the Lib Dems and asking them to vote tactically.

Graham Oakes said "This type of dirty trick is an example of why people have lost faith in politicians. I realise both of the other parties are scared of losing, but this sort of behaviour is unacceptable. I challenge them to keep it clean."

The Lib Dems have pledged to not knowingly telephone anyone who has chosen the TPS service, unless they have previously indicated that we can. They are now pledging not to indulge in the same dirty tricks as used by their opponents.
