Weymouth Family Deported By Tories

March 21, 2005 10:28 AM

The plight of Verah Kachepa and her family from Weymouth, now being held in a detention centre in Bedfordshire highlights the problem with the Tories Asylum Policy.

Under the Tory proposals for asylum and immigration this lady and her family would almost certainly be deported back to Malawi.

A policy strongly supported by the Tory PPC for South Dorset yet strangely he appeared in London at a protest supporting the family.

Just the latest example of jumping on the bandwagon, by this wannabe politician.

Local Lib Dem PPC Graham Oakes commented: "There is massive support for this lady and her family. I hope Jim Knight is successful in attempts to prevent their deportation."

"This case highlights the absolute nonsense of an immigration policy based on numbers rather than needs. Under a Tory government a family a risk of torture entering the country early in the year will have a greater chance of staying than one nearer the end, when all the places may have been filled."

"This policy goes against the British tradition of providing asylum to those in need."
